OVER 50s TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR THE ‘SKI’ GENERATION - (Spend the Kids’ Inheritance!)
- 05 | 11 | 07
Leading travel insurance specialist, Preferential Direct, reports that increasing amounts of its customers in their 50s and over fit into the ‘SKI’ Generation (Spend the Kids’ Inheritance) social group: they are traveling further afield to adventurous destinations for longer and more often than ever before, and therefore require travel insurance to match.
Forget Bournemouth or Blackpool – according to Preferential, if you are over 50 and taking out travel insurance you’re more likely to be found enjoying short breaks to Oman or Dubai; city breaks to Talinn or Riga, or spending up to 31 days a year on an adventure cruise in Antarctica or an extended African safari, even though many in the insurance industry have not recognised this fact and seem to make it more difficult for older people to obtain insurance, with many household names making their products only available to those under 65 years of age.
Steve Nickerson, managing director at Preferential, comments, “Perceptions of people over 50 have really changed within the last ten years. Rather than spending their retirement playing golf or on the bowling green, this generation is making the most of their health, wealth and life experience by broadening their horizons with travel, whether it’s a regular city break or a longer holiday to an exciting area of the world.”
Preferential’s Annual Multi Trip travel insurance means you can take any number of round trips during the year up to a maximum of 31 days for each trip. Also – it automatically covers you for over 50 special interests and pursuits including angling, parasailing and wind-surfing!
European Classic Annual Multi Trip cover for a 50 year old starts from £20.42 for an individual with no pre-existing medical conditions and a Worldwide Classic Annual Multi Trip policy (including USA & Canada) is priced from £29.17.
Classic’s vital cover includes medical emergency cover of up to £2 million per person. Cancellation cover is provided up to £1,000 and personal accident cover is up to £5,000 per person. Personal property is up to £1,000 per person, with a single article limit of up to £150.
For those requiring the added reassurance of “fully comprehensive” cover at even higher levels, Preferential’s Deluxe travel insurance offers exactly that, for example up to £10 million for medical emergency cover and can be tailored to include winter sports cover and enhanced baggage cover.
