Discover Things to do on Holiday in Abu Dhabi
It’s hard to imagine that vibrant Abu Dhabi was once a
small, pearl-diving village no more than 50 years ago.
Now it’s the capital city for one of the richest
Emirates, with an impressive skyline, luxury
hotels, world-class shopping malls, miles of
pristine beaches and over 200 coastal islands.
Emirates Palace Hotel
This luxury hotel, built and owned by the Abu Dhabi government, had a total construction cost of over 3 billion dollars, and is reputed to be the most expensive hotel ever built. The interior of the hotel is equally as impressive as the exterior (which often gets mistaken for the official residence of the ruler of Abu Dhabi.) with its expansive marble floor, balconies and large patterned dome, picked out in gold.
The hotel is conveniently located near to local attractions and shopping malls, one of which is one of the two largest shopping malls in Abu Dhabi city, the Marina Mall which has over 300 outlets including Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Versace as well as four supermarkets and a cinema.
Le Royal Meridien
Le Royal Meridien sits in the heart of Abu Dhabi and offers luxury accommodation with stunning views of the Arabian Gulf and the lush, public gardens of the Corniche. Features include a private lounge, a state-of-the-art health club, and a pool set amidst terraced gardens.
Located within walking distance of the commercial and business districts of the city, Le Royal Méridien is only a short drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport and a stroll away from the shopping malls, the Corniche, watersports facilities, tennis courts and golf courses.
Dining at this hotel can be a fantastic experience with its many restaurants and bars, but the highlight is its Al Fanar revolving rooftop restaurant, where you can relax and enjoy a fantastic meal with unparalleled views of the views of the city and the Arabian Gulf.
InterContinental
The InterContinental boasts a location next to the beach and is surrounded by palm trees and parkland. Its luxury accommodation ranges from Standard Deluxe rooms to Royal Suites and all have spectacular views of the Arabian Gulf or the city skyline.
The hotel offers a wide variety of cuisine, from International to Mediterranean, Mexican, Lebanese and even Thai.
Facilities include a health club, an outdoor swimming pool & children's pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, beauty salon and sportswear shop. The hotel also has its own a private beach and water sport facilities, but the highlight is its own private island which is just a short boat trip away.
Activities & excursions
There are many activities to get involved in, in Abu Dhabi, including dune-driving,
desert safaris and horse and camel racing
events, as well as scuba-diving, deep-sea
fishing and some excellent golf courses.
Building Work
Abu Dhabi continues to be an upcoming destination and new hotels, residential properties, business parks and shopping centres will be in development for the foreseeable future. Most construction work takes place 7 days a weekand around the clock. Due to the scale of this work it is important to be aware that most hotels may experience occasional disturbance and guests will see, hear and most likely drive through areas of building works when on holiday. Despite the immense scale of the building work Abu Dhabi remains a fantastic destination, the level of visitors to the region is testament to this, so don't be put off.
