Bulgaria is located in South Eastern Europe and is growing in popularity each year. It is developing a reputation for quality resorts at reasonable prices and welcomes holidaymakers all year round, with Ski Holidays available in the winter and beach holidays in the summer.
For those would love winter sports, Bulgaria is home to the Balkan Mountains.It has 3 main ski resorts, Bansko – which has the best snow record and the longest ski season (15 Dec - 15 May) of all three ski resorts, Borovets, the oldest resort, which has developed into a modern ski resort with restaurants, discos, shops and a good choice of pistes and lifts and finally, Pamporovo, which is considered to be ideal for beginners, due to its gentle slopes.
Summer resorts are mostly located on the Black Sea at Sozopol, Nessebur, Golden Sands, Sunny Beach and Sveti Vlas.
Sozopol is found about 30 kilometres south of Bourgas and is a scenic, rocky peninsula. This ancient town and seaside resort is popular with Bulgarians and tourists alike. A haven for artists and poets, the town is known for the Apollonia art and film festival held in September each year. Stroll along the front, watch the local fishermen as they bring in their catch, or go for a bite to eat at one of the several restaurants offering delicious local cuisine and fresh sea food.
Nessebur is found approximately 30 kilometres north east of Bourgas and it is one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria. The old quarter, situated on the Nessebur Peninsula takes you back in time and is an architectural and archaeological reserve, offering visitors cobbled streets, ancient churches, museums, souvenir shops and great-value, cuisine at the traditional Mehanas.
Golden Sands is the largest resort on Bulgaria’s northern coastline with 3 kilometres of sandy beach. Golden Sands has many restaurants, fast food joints, traditional local tavernas, bars and buzzing nightlife.
Sunny Beach is a haven for families with children of all ages with a long, wide sandy beach and numerous activities including windsurfing, sailing, parasailing, speed boating, scooter-driven parachuting, pedalboats, water skiing, horseback riding, archery, mini-golf, roller skating, bowling, tennis and beach volleyball.Back to Country Profiles Site Map
